Coverage in the Los Altos Crier? Who’s famous?
That’s right. I’m all kinds of famous. Check this out.
Mixing it up

A couple of weeks ago, I attended a monthly mixer at Stanford University’s Cantor Arts Center. The event, held on the third Thursday of the month, is one of a limited number of social events for young professionals in the cultural badlands south of San Francisco. On my way past the sphinxes, a pair of women passed me in the opposite direction. They looked like they were in a rush to leave. “No good?” I asked.
“It’s all girls, and there’s no red wine,” they responded.
The warning made me hesitate, but it seemed senseless to rule out the mixer’s virtues before even going inside. I pressed on.
At the end of the long first-floor corridor that houses many of Stanford University’s art treasures, I found a sign-in booth. To my horror, there were wristbands for the over 21. Nothing breaks the cool and says “I’m trying to have a good time” like wristbands to designate the of-age.
“ID please – if you plan on drinking.” I had forgotten my license in the car. One of the boothers looked at me with reproach. In the car, indeed.
Art, romantic lighting and cocktails? It didn’t take an Ivy Leaguer to figure out the gender-specific appeal of the event. And as expected, the place was swarming with females – definitely not the best place to cruise the Stanford singles scene and meet an alumnus husband-to-be. It did turn out, however, to be a great place to meet my next favorite indie artist.
